Word is out on the most exclusive club in Warnell!
Writing competency is fundamental to a graduate student’s progress and professional development. Are you hoping to grow professionally as a writer? Do you have looming, focused writing tasks (e.g., prospectus, proposal, thesis chapters, or manuscripts)? Do you need help dedicating time to writing and developing a writing habit? Well, the best way to become a better or more efficient writer is to write [and reflect], and the best way to develop a habit is to practice the habit. We invite all graduate students, staff, and faculty to join us this Fall 2025 semester for the 6th installment of Write Club.
Over the prior six semesters, nearly 100 Write Club members have racked up a collective 5,625 hours of writing! That’s like running ~1,200 marathons, driving back and forth from Athens to LA 88 times, or watching all 785 episodes of The Simpson’s 14 times!

Write Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM in 1-201 Warnell. If you need some flexibility around these times, please contact the instructor. There is a 1 credit option for you to participate one day per week for a 2.5 hr block of time or a 2 credit option to participate both days each week (5 hr per week). ~One day per week, we will spend 20-30 minutes discussing some aspect of the writing process. Discussion topics include the science of and solutions to procrastination, tips for developing and sustaining a writing practice, emerging technologies for writing efficiently (e.g., reference managers, Quarto, etc…), frameworks for drafting and revising manuscripts, tips for reader-friendly writing, guidance on how to solicit, give, and receive feedback constructively, ways how to manage collaborative writing. For the remainder of the time, we write. That’s it!
Your grade in Write Club is based on two criteria … show up prepared to contribute to discussions and show up and write. The in-person nature of Write Club is key to what makes it work; however, a remote participation option is available for students based at remote locations outside the Athens area or for legitimate reasons for missing the in-person writing session.
